What I've gotten out of IGN's review (make no mistake, I don't trust them on everything) is that the reviewer thinks Sonic Chronicles gets a lot better after having reached a certain point.

I've been able to enjoy certain Sonic games that weren't said to have that bright side (Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog), so I'll still give this game a shot. Plus I'm a sucker for tying the stories of separate games together.
