That's somewhat the point. Finding similarities between games isn't very hard, and there are cases, like Sonic & Strider, where one thing was almost certainly influenced by the other.

The Sky Chase section is really similar to that section in Strider in which you have to be over a plane, they don't control the same but you can clearly see some really big similarities. The Wing Fortress is also pretty similar to the giant airship in Strider too, not to mention the parachute bombs and the fans. Gameplay-wise, they both use a lot the concept of your movements and actions being directly influenced by momentum, which is why Oshima/Yasuhara looked into it as a reference to see how that exactly works in a game.
