There is nothing wrong with the background, hot pink is used very frequently because it's never used in actual sprites (for the most part) and can allow perfect transparency translations, as well as bring out the colors of the sheet itself. Bright green is also commonly used as a background color.

However, that doesn't matter, as we aren't using that sheet, and we have other characters to tend to. Check the asterisks, people.
