Systems Region locked

Might I ask why it would matter if a hand held is region locked?

Hearing about it [importing games] frequently, and putting aside the wider selection of titles and localization issues, I hardly see the point of it.

EDIT:

The D-pad location seems to be in a awkward place...

This isn't really a first, after all, the D-pad on the gamecube controller was pretty awkward (let alone have little use.)



Perhaps Nintendo was trying to make the control layout somewhat similar to this, I mean yeah it isn't exactly what the 3DS has but it's likely they were trying to imitate that a wee bit.
