Sonic Colors had a ton of splitting paths which was really cool. The different Color abilities were very very well explored in level design and in getting to splitting paths and exploring, but Colors still relies on bad design choices that are reminiscent of the other games that gets really apparent in Colors since it DOES rely more on exploring and experimenting than the other recent games - deathpits, parts of the level that were thought to get through in just one way, punishing the player by trying anything different and keep pushing the player forward without giving him much control or freedom to backtrack are really not good elements in a game that incentives you to try finding different paths by being a bit more creative and having more out-of-the-box thinking than just GO FORWARD. I guess that also applies to Unleashed since it also offers a variety of alternative paths and rewards exploring (although on Unleashed it's more about knowing when to jump in full speed and all to get to shortcuts than on actually taking your time to explore and being a bit creative with your skills like in Colors).
