Wait, there was only one Eggrobo? I thought he was a mass-produced model, I didn't know he was a distinct character.

Eggrobo was a mass-produced model. Sonic destroyed all of them except one, who fixed Mecha Sonic MK-II and tried to get the Master Emerald off Knuckles, who didn't have Sonic nor Tails there to help him out. When Eggrobo caught Knuckles, he evade Mecha Sonic's attack, that destroyed the Eggrobo.

The one surviving Eggrobo is said to be a distinct character because he seems smarter than the others - since he proved to be more than just a badnik much like the others seemed to be.
