I dislike capacitive touch screens for the same reason as Viper, actually! But that patent schematic had a touch screen in junction with regular buttons. The DS has shown how the touch screen can function as a very effective interractive HUD, so that's just dandy.
Though this feedback gimmick doesn't really bother me - mostly because it doesn't 'do' anything. Similar to how the 3DS' 3D doesn't do anything; it survives off the strength of its more practical applications, the acelerometer, the increased internet/wireless functionality, etc. etc.
So yeah. Until they mention gameplay-affecting hardware features, I see no real cause for concern.
