Similar recent Super-Guide-esque ideas include Machinarium's inbuilt walkthrough/hint system and Deus Ex 3's highlighting of objects in an ugly yellow outline. You'll probably see more as time goes on. It'll spread faster due to Nintendo being the trend-setter again these days.
