A bit much, if you ask me...
Like, it's great for me if I wanted to buy a Vita (and I don't), but it doesn't seem like a very smart move on Sony's part. They're dropping a lot of money really fast with this. Unless it sells like hotcakes (and considering the PSP's legacy that would be asking a bit much) I think Sony's just gonna fail here.
you're probably going to buy games, too
Sony makes profit off of the game sales, first-party SCE titles - God of War, LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, [Infamous?] etc. - huge profits, and that's where they rake their monies in. They're actually enough to more than compensate for the losses per console. You can't own a PS3 without buying at least one game, whether it be on PSN or in a physical store. And who the hell seriously has ONLY ONE GAME for their console nowadays? profits profits everywhere
they've always relied on this method actually; in fact microsoft and sony both sell their consoles at a loss as the sales of games easily compensate. Nintendo's the only one out of ~The Three~ who actually make profits selling their consoles.
when people joked that the DS printed money they were pretty spot-on
