Well I was paying more attention to the gist of the original post: whether or not a fighting game SHOULD include such a portion. Personally I think game devs should stick to making a good fighter or a good beat-em-up (even though those are scarce these days). If you try both you'll either detract from what is supposed to be considered the main product, or you'll have a lesser mode that just feels tacked on, or both.
