The first 3 challenges were there to showcase 3 main aspects of pixel art. Asking someone to draw something on top of that renders them useless.I can see what you mean now. There are quite a few similarities between the silhouette assignment and the drawing assignment. I'll get rid of the drawing assignment.

All of them? At this point in time I wouldn't mind you being more specific on the standard challenges you had in mind.
Okay, so from tomorrow, the 30th of June, to the 20th of July, you have to post your finished entries in the following thread.
Well, in the last challenges you were given definite material to work from. Actual pixel art. Applying a palette to a bunch of squares isn't a good judge of how to choose colors. I can't think of anyone who makes a palette before they actually make line art for a sprite. The palette reflects how you intend to shade/color a figure and it's hard to make that aspect abstract.
The silhouette challenge is a cool idea, but the silhouette is far too crowded and blocky. Using actual curves and shapes would be far better suited to this.
The lineart challenge makes no sense. All I see are a bunch of randomly placed pixels. It's not line"art" because there is no "art". An actual figure would be far better.
All in all I'd prefer the format of last year's TUGS with just switched out pixel art and a new figure for the drawing aspect of the challenge.
