OK, let me start by saying that Wario Land 2 & 3 was my favorite platformer on GBC. 
The thing is, recoloring sprites isn't anything new though, It's really easy and require very little effort. Instead of presenting this to the comunity, how-about trying out something more original, like a custom sprite or really good edit.
I can see your point in the pic you posted, WL3 Wario does look a lot more like SMB3 Mario, but CO2's point still stands, It doesn't take much to do it. Try posting some customs or heavy edits next time. Look at the dictionary and some of the tutorials there, etc. There's some really useful info there, even for people who aren't new to spritng.
