i'm not that familiar with FinalFantasy but i've just had a look at some of the sprites and your sprites aren't really in style. All these sprites are very messy and have a number of unnecessary pixels
there are quite a few anatomy issues, even with the book...
they've all got stubs for arms and legs
the perspective of the book is odd, you've made the back page larger than the front which isn't realistic. The back page should be the same size or smaller than the front if you're going for oblique or perspective, respectively
the character's heads are wider than their torsos which is unrealistic and not a stylistic element of FF either
you should look up human and canine anatomy and use some references to help you fix what you've done so far
the outlining is puzzling at the moment because it's on and off here and there for no apparent reason
another issue is that the poses aren't very exciting, i'm not sure if you're making an overworld or battle sprite but if they're battle sprites, they could be more energetic and have more character
