aside from the people who abuse it frequently I don't see the problem with it personally.
To be fair Blue Shells and this so called balance system that relies on your position for the better items in the race punishes people who have skill (like nicktendo has been saying), if anything that needs to be fixed before snaking.
hell I welcome snaking in Mario Kart. at least it adds a bit of depth to the shallow formula that Nintendo refuses to change or improve.
Related to this: Seeing as the maximum number of coins you can carry is 10, it would have been nice to get better items like in CTR. Have the Blue Shell appear only if that person has 10 coins and there's a little more balance.
Also, people who are in 1st place should have the right to get better items, Triple Green Shells at least or something to block the wretched Blue Shell.
