Second to the original, I always thought that DS had the most egregious rubber-band AI, which apparently isn't popular opinion. But there's no way Yoshi should be able to shoot past me when his max speed is about 2 full mph less than my character's, and I'm running at top speed. I never saw a problem with Double-Dash's AI (seeing as I drive the Toad Kart, don't snake excessively, and can still hold my own in first), or Wii's (besides their sadistic item timing).
It kind of surprises me that they wouldn't have made the AI more like Mario Kart Wii's, seeing as they've apparently got coding item usage down. Maybe it's to make up for the added help of the double screen.
