See if you have a Lure Skull. I think it worked for me, but then again maybe I just got really lucky and he was in an attack animation going the opposite direction of me. At any rate, try and get him down OFF the castle. Hiding in front of the staircase halfway across the bridge (the part you can't run down in a pinch unfortunately) seems to work after a few seconds if you don't have a bow.
