Actually, it looks now like it could be easily edited into a Sumo Bro, the way his hands are on his knees like that...
As for the "face forward" angle, place the eyes, and then have the upper head (above the beak). The beak itself should actually be covering the mouth. If this is only for a "turning" sprite, that's all that you would really need anyway.
