Yeah, there is definitely something wrong with those two. The reason he looks so shredded is that the normal direction of the faces (which define the front and back) are all messed up. It would be a huge hassle to manually fix them all, but that wouldn't make much difference, because there's an even bigger problem. Polygons are being defined where they shouldn't be. It's hard to see with backface culling hiding the backsides of polygons, but there are inappropriate polygons all across the model, connecting what should otherwise be separate pieces of the model. The most obvious example is the square connecting the straps of her shoes together. There are also several that connect her lips to her forehead, and other general messiness. Theoretically, it should be possible to fix manually, but it would be best just to figure out how to fix the exporter.
