Usually I'd agree with you but considering we have solid gold enemies, I wouldn't be surprised to have some sort of Gold Mario power up. Also, if you look at it, he has metallic shading on him instead of basic shading which also leads me to believe it isn't just a simple palette swap flash like when he usually has a star.
