I understand. Actually, I knew most of that, but now it's made it clear to me. The thing is, I didn't realise that the borders of the tools in Tool Shelf were semi-transparent (pretty hard to see) so I didn't get the point.
So I was right: if there's a semi-transparent glow on a sprite, give it a transparent background. Looks like I'll have to change this sheet then, right? That "©2011 LEVEL-5 Inc." is semi-transparent (the top one, not the bottom one), but I just put it against the green BG. Luckily I keep all my images in .xcf format so it'll be a piece of cake to change.
