What I thought might be a fun idea is to make an RPG that IS turn based, but ISN'T based entirely on the whole traditional RPG stats system where there's like 40 stats that are all constantly being called into question.
For example, having battles where the menu system changes the available commands. Instead of "Attack, Psi, Item", etc, suddenly for the next battle against a specific opponent the commands suddenly become "Tickle, Flirt, Annoy", and you have to find out what works on that boss.
