I still haven't been able to get psyched for The Dark Knight Rises.
See, Batman's problem in everything he's in is that the villain always, always steals the show, and after Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow and Ledger's absolutely incredible run as the Joker... well, shit. How do you top them?
Then there's Bane. I've never really disliked Bane as a character, but he, as a whole, really only exists altogether for one reason. Oh, and spoilers there, if you keep your head under a rock. The point is, Bane only exists to up the ante, which is not in itself a bad thing, but the character of Batman himself was never interesting. He's got this little internal struggle that's required to keep being Batman. Take that away, and he's revealed as a mannequin for how much the audience can identify with him. Adding another, much more direct conflict, does not depth make.
Bale also overacts the fuck out of Batman (and I want to knife somebody every time he speaks while he's got the cowl on), but I've very much liked how he does Bruce Wayne.
Well that was a superlong way to say that I'm a Batfan who hasn't seen The Dark Knight Rises.
