Your engine works well, but I think you can go further than just creating another MZM engine. I mean, you did call it Metroid Dread and I've been waiting for that game for ages.
How about adding:
-sprint, like in SM
-backpedal, à la SM
-boost ball ability with slopes to test it on, boost off walls with spider ball
-transport systems for the morph ball
-the slash effect of a charged shot, à la MF
-grapple beam
-classic space jump and screw attack
-working in-game map
-anything else cool that could distinguish your engine from the others.
