Let's say you can do 20, but no more.
Do at least one series of 20 pushups a day, until you can do it with ease.
Then you add five, if not ten to your objective.
Repeat the process.
Also, if starting from scratch, 20 pushups may be excessive. I would start with 10 or 15 personally, whatever you can do basically.
