A crash could lead to better games, yeah. But I would really rather not have one. Hell look at all mess with Atari during the last crash. These are people's jobs.
Not to mention if a crash did happen you'd be sitting around for 3 years and just hoping someone reboots the whole thing and I kind of doubt something along the awesomeness of the NES will come rolling out. Technology has slowed down, you wouldn't get the same kind of big jump (unless VR was the next thing).
Having 3 main leading platforms also makes it very unlikely. Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony all stepping out of the video-game industry is highly unlikely, not to mention that the PC is pretty much "safe" without big developers.
