Y'know, there's no such time when you'll spontaneously be "ready" for custom work.
The only way to get good at custom work is to do customs. There's not really any reason to wait, at all. It's just a waste of time if you convince yourself that you're not ready yet.
I mean, if you get some benefits from edits, that's fine. But um, y'know, you can do both. Though I suggest posting your customs, not edits, because there's really not much we can say about edits that will help.
If you feel like you're not ready to do customs because your attempts are difficult and horrible, then well
you're missing the point of practicing and improving. That's how art works. You deal with it and keep trying.
