People usually say YM synth chip is worse than SPC700 chip found in the SNES, and that's right. Genesis' YM2612 chip uses an older sound output method by generating waveforms instead of real instrument samples. But, in the end, the composer is the one who makes those chips sound good. Sometimes, the Genesis version's songs are better than SNES, and vice versa. It's a matter of a better use of resources; there are Genesis games that sound like ass, and there are SNES games that sound like ass.
By the way, idk if those conversions would work in a real console, as the composer is apparently sampling waveforms instead of generating them, also some YM2612 niggles that I still didn't memorize. But it does sound legit enough for me.
