While you're correct, usually TV shows and stuff only shows the 'End' kanji instead of the fully written 'owari' at the end.

btw how do you do those half-toning effects? I assume it's monochrome paint bmps...

Yeah, it's just drawn in Ms Paint with it set to black and white. Also, I didn't realize that about the end kanji; almost every time I see it it's written the way I had it. (Although I don't pay attention to it very often, and when I do see it it's in like fanfics or whatever.)
