Animation is also extremely important and if its quality is poor, then it'll bring your work down too. But since you seem to acknowledge your poor animation skills, I won't delve on them much and instead focus on the upper sprites. Thanks for your feedback, First about the SMW tiles, I did go for that aim. I want these to be used in a SMW fangame or hack. I used standard colors from other SMW ripps that way the color texture is perfect. The green you are seeing is the same colors as the Bush in the first level with the cape.
The tiles look decent imo, though some of the colors are too saturated, like those green in the grass. Also I'd say to get rid of the black outline, but it looks like you went for a SMW look on the tiles.
As for the Toad sprites, they lack the quality you find in the official sprites. The lines look wonky and ugly due to you not really understanding the concept of anti-aliasing (check for its definition in the spriting dictionary). Also, the readability in some of your frames are poor, such as victory pose and you don't seem to follow the style in the idle/hurt poses, as well as many others. I am not familiar with the style, but I think others can guide you better.
About toad, I wasn't aiming for original looking toad, I wanted to give toad some more detail instead of him being really ugly (as he is in M&LSS) How these sprites were made was a friend of mine came up with the original base sprite and I just made poses off of that. So unfortunately there is not much more I can do to the base. (trust me though it looked much much worse before i helped him fix it)
So thanks for your Feedback, Ill see if I cant fix anything in the next little wile.
