In the first sprite, you can actually see the body fairly well IMO. Maybe he should just discard the stars inside the cape.
I also agree with Ridge, I prefer the little fold detail on the one side of the cape, and it looks much better hanging down behind him to me.
In fact, I did a quick color swap on the inside of his cape that solves the readability problem.

The color probably doesn't match his character's design but I figure since we're already sacrificing detail, a slightly different color in one area wouldn't hurt (though only if Sean likes it of course).
I realize it doesn't look spacey anymore, but... oh well?
