With how unreliable browsers are at playing gifs at the right speed I wouldn't really say that worked...
On 'topic' duplicate frames are sometimes needed for readability, it's only when frames are duplicated because the sheet it badly organised or caused by overlapping sprites (sorry to bring it up AGAIN but that DarkStalkers 3 dropping the apple sheet really annoys me) that it becomes an issue. BUT even then that can be acceptable if an animation is on a sheet twice with and without 'special effects' (such as electricity bouncing around their body etc.) as the 'user' of the sheet would have no way to accurately used the 'special effects' with the sprite otherwise.
It's the line of "how the crap am I meant to put these together/What is going on here?" Vs "why the hell is their the same sprite 6 times?"
