I just think we should try and take care of some of the problems here first: poverty, pollution, natural energy, and so forth. If this stuff, or at least most of it, can be solved then it makes Earth more liveable, and hinders the need for a new planet. What's more, being able to live on Mars is still AGES away, while the problems here can be solved in a much shorter time if money is used towards it and people are determined enough.
Don't get me wrong: I love space exploration. I would personally rather watch a documentary on the solar system's rotation than on poverty and how to prevent it, I admit. But I just think that on the whole, we should take care of one planet before moving on to the next. I'm not saying to abort going to Mars, just delaying it.
And hey, maybe saving more people = more scientists/engineers/etc = getting to Mars faster and more efficiently. Just a thought.
