But he's right with Smb3's levels.

True, they're considered linear. But when you really play the levels there's actually several paths you can take to get to the goal roulette of the level. And this is especially true in the pipe zone's levels and to some extent some of the fortress levels.

This stands even more true for SMW, granted that you consider secret exits and ghost houses. And that one level in world six where whatever zone you were taken to depended on the amount of time it takes you to get to the pipe. That said I think when it comes to linearity in 2D mario games it depends on how noticable it really is.
