I think I used to be like that a few years ago.
Don't get me wrong, it's not like I was afraid of the dark or anything; I just felt this huge unexplainable uneasiness every night when it came time to turn the lights off which led to me standing there for hours after I was supposed to be in the bed some nights too reluctant to flip the switch.
It was like the combination of the dark and the dead silence put me on edge and I just couldn't shake the feeling.
Fortunately, that all went away once I was finally allowed to put my computer in my room.
Since it's on all the time, the glow of the LEDs and the whirring of the fans stopped the problem pretty much instantly.
Now I can walk around my house in pitch black and it doesn't affect me at all.
Jetters is right; you don't necessarily need a full-blown nightlight, but perhaps having something that gives off a glow will help.
