Mit's Sprites and Such

Question on the Petty Piranha sprite (the answer might seem a bit obvious here, so forgive me for that), is the whole puppet thing a technique for the animation to work or is it part of the sprite as a whole.

I'm curious because it's kind of interesting that you did that to mimic a flight sequence in my honest opinion.
