Bit of advice, try to have some structure to your sprites, as right now some of them are really lacking in this department. Adventure Time's sprites might've used this creatively, but here, not so much.
Alright, let's begin with the fireball. Well, he's an intangible object, and his arms are all noodly and stuff, but then the outline comes into play. Most sprites that focus on fireballs don't feature black outlines per-say, but more of the darker shade of that particular color. In this case, This particular fireball here.
Look how it's still rounded out without the outlines? It comes back to contrast.
