nono, it's 100% fine to update anyone's sheets. you don't need to contact anyone either, so long as their sheet doesn't say like "DO NOT EDIT SHEET WITHOUT PERMISSION" or something silly like that. you're making them better after all. 
also, the way our categorizing system works, based on your listing, it would actually be set up like this:
Playable Characters
Non-Playable Characters (or NPCs)
Enemies
Bosses
Backgrounds
Miscellaneous
we don't do things in "sub-categories", if something is an enemy or boss it all goes into one section. unless of course it's a special/certain case.
if you want though, the battle bgs and overworld bgs can be in separate sections, though only if there are enough battle bg sheets to hold their own.
