Seriously, if you wanted every pokemon to be the same stats and abilities wise, you might as well have every pokemon be a grey box, have all of them be Normal type, have all their moves be only Tackle, and have the player start in a town called Final Destination where there are no buildings, people or exits. In fact, there's no tall grass either, so you don't ever have to catch a grey box and feel bad when someone you know catches two grey boxes.
I never said I wanted them to have the same abilities. That would be the deciding factor. Every Pokemon can be raised the strongest, but that doesn't mean they would be raised the smartest.
Think of it this way. Right now in the actual game, you could have one person with a level 100 Dragonite VS another trainer with a level 100 Dragonite. Despite them having the same Pokemon at the same level, the two Dragonites have different moves, and different stats.
One trainer ends up winning the battle, not because he had a superior Pokemon, but because of how he raised his Dragonite, what moves he taught it, what kind of strategies he came up for it. Having a better species Pokemon had nothing to do with winning the battle since both trainers had the same one.
That's how I feel all Pokemon should work. Winning battles would be based on how you EV trained the Pokemon, what unique strategies you came up with, and what moves it knew along with type match-up.
In my version of Pokemon, a level 100 Raticate could beat a level 100 Dragonite if trained properly, had the right moves, and right strategies.
