[WRITING] Eldritch Fairytales
#1
Haldo!

For about a half year now I've been working on my first novel called Eldritch Fairytales. Now before you're asking, do you have anything to show? Well, of course I have, but let me first introduce the novel properly.

Eldritch Fairytales tells the story about Edgar C. Howard, a bookstore owner and a hobby-author who mainly writes stuff for free and for others to expand on.

One day, on a stormy night, a young woman who calls herself Diana Pierson comes at his bookstore, which is a start of a good frienship and eventually a romance.

Also she's a fairy tale character.

This is the start of their journey where they start something that should have been started a long time ago. They might not be able to prevent something that will change the world, but they might have a chance at preventing the world from turning into something dark.

So, naturally, I could post an excerpt of my novel, which I will. In fact, I'll just give you some parts of my novel. It's all a work in progress, and all chapters will be evaluated at some point and may even be (partially) revised.

Quote:From chapter 1, The Calm

It was a stormy summer night when she came to my store. I had already closed it down, but stayed a bit to tidy up the place before going home, when I noticed a young woman outside. She stood there, banging on the windows, wanting to get in, as if she had no other place to go. I let her in, not even questioning her or asking her what she did out there.

“What a night,” I said. “Things were never this bad.” She remained silent. She didn’t have anything to protect her from the rain, not even a raincoat. All she had was a cloak and a basket, and I assumed the cloak didn’t really help that much. Apparently she didn’t seem to mind, but I did get a towel for her.

“You know, you’re lucky,” I said, “I was about to go home.”

She remained silent. My place was just upstairs, so I wouldn’t have to go through the rain, and I didn’t really feel like sending her back out. I hesitated a bit.

“I have a guest room. It isn’t much, but at least you’d have a place to stay, at least until the storm passes.”

Still nothing. I walked towards the front door. “Well, I’m about to lock this place up, so if you still want to leave, you should do it now, otherwise you’d have to wait until tomorrow.”

She didn’t make any move towards the door. I decided to just let her stay, and locked the store. I then moved to the back, towards the stairs, where she followed me. I then showed her to the guest room.

“If you want to take a shower, you can just take a clean towel from one of the cabinets. I’m gonna go and make some dinner, you can join me if you want, but it’s just some leftovers.”

She said nothing, instead going to the guest room, closing the door behind me. As I went to the kitchen, though, I heard her enter the bathroom where she indeed did take a shower. Since I was already done setting up the food, which only needed to be heated in the microwave anyway, I searched for some old clothes that my grandmother left behind after she passed away. My grandfather used to live here, but after she passed away and he retired, he just gave it to me, along with the store, saying the house contained too many memories of his wife. He didn’t even want any of her old stuff.

I took an old sheet of paper, wrote on it that she could borrow the dress, and then placed it, along with the dress, on the guest bed. After a while, when I had already heated the leftovers and began my meal of some old chow-mein with side vegetables and fries from another joint, she was done with her shower and had already changed.

During dinner, she didn’t say anything. It was actually pretty awkward, but I did try to break the silence, by talking about random stuff. Eventually though, I gave up, and asked her if she wanted to watch some television, to which she nodded. I gave her the remote, but either the channel I put it on was already good enough or she didn’t really care much for television. As she was busy watching television, I looked outside to see how the weather was. All I could hope was that the weather would improve.

Quote:From chapter 4, The Heart

I haven’t dreamt about that wolf since that last time. Instead, I’ve had strange dreams, weird dreams about stuff I’ve written myself. Most of it played just like how it did in my stories, but something changed. The first time I’ve had such a dream it was just a regular romance story I’ve written. I played the part of the male protagonist, while Diana was the love interest. All went like in the story, until, for some reason, the house caught on fire. Except it wasn’t a regular fire. I couldn’t exactly place it, since I woke up at that moment, but there was something peculiar about the fire.

In another dream, there were these creatures. They were created using a machine in which you could design and program the behavior of these creatures. It wasn’t exactly science fiction, more of a fantasy story. But, unlike in the story, the creatures were dark, more alien looking. They didn’t look anything like what was designed. One even began attacking me before I woke up, and in that dream, I was just a spectator.

Those weren’t the only kinds of dreams though. Some were just pure nightmare, recurring dreams with the same theme, telling a story I never have written before myself. In that dream, I would lie in my bed, and look besides me to where Diana was, but she was gone. I then got up, trying to look for her, but on my way down, I always felt like I was being watched, as if there were faces on the walls, with hollow eyes and pitch dark mouths, but every time they escaped my peripheral vision, they disappeared.

I would then reach the bottom of the stairs, and enter the bookstore. There I would see a child in a red cloak, standing with her back towards me, but when I approached her, she turned around, revealing that same face, hollow eyes and pitch dark mouth.

Now, I do hope I made you guys a bit curious, and fortunately, I found a way to publish my novel as an e-book while writing it. To me it's an excellent tool, as it gives me an incentive to actually work for it, since some have already paid. You can find my novel on the next link:

Now, you might be wondering, is this all? Is everything behind a paywall? Well, not really.

You see, for the past few months I've been giving away my novel to a lot of people, and in fact I have generated quite some coupons for a free copy of my novel that are valid through December 31th 2018, with no usage limit. Basically anybody could just get about 900 copies for free, which is kind of a pointless thing to do, actually.

So, how could you get one of them spiffy free copies? Well, by using the following coupon:

Coupon: EFTSR

Remember though, the coupon is only valid through December 31th of 2018. I might renew the coupon later on when it expires, but only if you ask nicely.

So yeah, I'll try to update my novel each month. I'm also planning on doing some huge revisions to some chapters, although it's mostly rewriting sections to better word them, as the dialog can seem a bit stiff, especially in chapter five, probably one of the weakest chapters as of writing this.

So yeah, tell me what you think, and don't forget to grab a copy. I really don't mind if you take a free copy and / or send it to your friends and family.
Big sigs are for scrubs.
