Mr Game and Watch was not even a character until he was brought into Melee, the Game and Watch games just used generic people-shapes and Nintendo brought one particular shape over to make a character.
He's visually indistinguishable from the characters in old G&W games, just because he never got a name doesn't mean anything
He's quite stylized if you ask me and is a great representative of Nintendo's early years
