Sonic I think would be a decent character to return, but only if his character was rebalanced. He was kind of rushed into the game to begin with, and I feel like it shows, he's a little sloppy. As for Snake, I'd personally LOVE to see him return, but I think that's sort of between Nintendo and Konami at this point. I don't know of Kojima's request to Sakurai to include him carries over to future games. xD

I really WANT them to return, have the match of the century between Mario, Sonic, Snake and Megaman.
