Before I continue, let me make it clear that I think it's dumb to hate on this fangame. But I also understand the fan rage over Legends 3. Your Oracle analogy doesn't work and here's why:
Nintendo announced the Oracle games as three Zelda games that could port data between each other. Let's pretend that they were also working on the GBA port of Link to the Past, as well as Wind Waker. Nintendo ends up canceling the third Oracle game, but releases the other two. Later, the GBA port of ALTTP and Wind Waker are released.
Now, let's change it to reflect Legends. Nintendo releases Oracle of Ages. Two or so years later, Oracle of Seasons is released. Fast forward ten years, about twenty other Zelda games have been released, as well as countless ports of older Zeldas. But these are Zelda in name only. They have none of the same characters or gameplay. Half are platformers and the other half are RPGs with a grid based battle system.
But fans want another Oracle game, so Nintendo decides to create a short prototype for download on a new system that's about to launch. They are also working on the GBA ALTTP port and Wind Waker. Nintendo says that if enough people buy the prototype, then they will make the new Oracle game. Suddenly, the guy that created the Zelda series gets fed up with Nintendo's policies and leaves to make his own indie company. Shortly after, Nintendo cancels the GBA port of ALTTP and Wind Waker. Then they cancel the Oracle prototype, saying that fans didn't show enough interest in it, despite it never being released to see if enough people showed interest in it! There also has not been a single Zelda game of any kind announced or released since.
That is why there is fan rage, my friend.
