It's not Capcom's fault the fans seem to prefer developing those type of games. Supporting them as a company is much better than treading all over any non-professional fanwork (Square Enix). I don't even think they're taking the credit for the development of the works, as much as they are just making sure the copyright is acknowledged. Megaman IS their property after all. Even if you make a fangame, the material (unless custom, but even then, it's fan material, since it's not completely original in that it's still based on, and set in a copyrighted series) still doesn't belong to you, except maybe the code.
All in all, however, I think...people are getting really defensive over trivial matters though. There are much more important things to get so emotional about, like how high tuition is, rather than not getting a game =O.
