I'm on my phone so excuse my lack of quotes for context.
First, in reference to oversized sheets being scaled down, it needs to happen and there's no logical way to let you skip the sheet view and go straight to the full sized version. The reason for this is that, in order to make the layout work properly, any content beyond a certain width in the middle column gets cut off. It's an unfortunate side effect of the three column setup. If it helps though, I can remove the new window/tab requirement from the full sized sheet.
As for edits to existing sheets, non-staff will have a "Submit Revision" button where staff see the "Edit" button right now. It's currently hidden simply because the function hasn't been fully written yet. It's coming soon though.
