Assuming the stones are a held item that is required to activate the Mega Evolutions, there is likely a limited number of these stones in the game, probably much fewer than the full party size of six. That is probably why they advertised that PARTICULAR stone is onlyable to be gotten that way, but it is still likely one of several. Why do you keep using the word "overreaction?" There's zero emotion behind my text when it comes to revelation; just an analysis of what the information says is happening so far. "Can't be gotten during normal gameplay" doesn't sound like "You could just spam whatever will be the equivalent of the Battle Frontier for Battle Points, which after getting a ridiculous amount, could let you trade for Mega Stones," or "Cynthia, who probably appears one more time in these games, will give you a free Garchomp Mega Stone upon defeat," or anything like that. It sounds like it'll be completely impossible to get in-game when they present it that way. I hope it isn't, and there IS some in-game way to get at least one of them, so they aren't all stuck in events that will inevitably end. Otherwise, it'd be ridiculous.
If that isn't the case, I'd be very surprised.
