I'm pretty sure it turned out that the family game sharing actually wasn't what people thought it would be at all.
If I remember correctly the common assumption was that it would allow you to play a game for up to an hour per day, and the time limit reset itself every 24 hours.
The reality is that it lets you play the game for an hour -- period. Once that 60 minutes is up you're done and have to buy the game if you want to play any more. It's like a one-time demo.
(note that i'm talking sharing between multiple xboxes, and not different accounts on the same console)
