It's not so much about "tossing Rock" as it is showing Capcom that we don't want any of their shit.
A Megaman game about a guy that looks and plays like Megaman by the guy who made Megaman will still feel like a Megaman game, blue armor or not.
I'm not really sure what your point is.
Would I have preferred it if this didn't have to be a new series? Well, sure, I guess. But at the same time, Megaman Classic is a TIRED franchise which really does need a refresher (or to be killed off entirely, finally).
On that note, I'd be pretty pissed if Inafune decides to go the route of getting Capcom to publish this as a Megaman game. Going to Kickstarter and making 4 million dollars and then STILL taking publisher money to make the game into something else is a dick move.
