SPOILERS AHOY!
Apparently Bowser lives in Biff Tannen's Casino now.
that actually seems kind of lackluster for a final stage boss battle. like don't get me wrong - it looks absolutely beautiful - but at no point during the "boss fight" do you actually make contact with bowser. you're hitting him under a POW block at the end and that's the end of the stage?
like honestly, i was expecting bowser to swipe the flag out at the end from under you at the stage end and THEN the real boss battle would start.
but that was just...uh
is this what boss battles have become? obstacle courses and test of attrition? like, there weren't even that many obstacles and the ones that existed were readable from a mile away
like, that was seriously dissapointing. all this ridiculous technology under the wii u hood and the best they could do was a neon light show before i got the credits sequence
i remember the OLD mario world when bowser rode around in that clown copter and the opportunities to inflict damage were so narrow in comparison to his attack patterns, regardless of power-up you still felt relatively powerless
like
even finalhazard was cooler than this
FINALHAZARD
oh jesus i sound like koopaul
I was REALLY hoping that after the clear pipe section, the fight would kickoff. I mean, it was perfectly set-up: Bowser(or Meowser(yes that's the offical name of the final boss)) just used Double Cherries, and he was climbing up the wall. However, instead of multiple Meowsers at the top for an epic showdown, we got a bunch of Cat Goombas. Yay. They should have also made it so that at various points (probably 3) of the climb, you would've had to hit a POW block to flip him over, then stomp on him while avoiding his clones (increased with each point) to continue on. At the top (which would be much bigger), you would probably have to do it three times, with each time increasing the clones, some of which join in on the fight.
The fight is somewhat disappointing gameplay-wise, considering there are better ways of doing a boss battle like this with its potential, but it could be worse. Despite this though, the music and visuals are great.
