i mean, maybe? i do consider the diddy's kong quest ost to be wise's best work, but i also love the diddy kong racing soundtrack and enjoy his new compositions for the gba version of dixie's double trouble. (his work on the battletoads games--all of them--is nothing to scoff at, either)
but i haven't seen him on game projects much since that era. wikipedia's list of credits for him on his page starts to dwindle after 1995, and i can't help but feel there's a reason for that.
maybe his fame from the donkey kong country tunes is getting him a bit typecast. he should be known as "the guy who did practically every rareware soundtrack for the nes" (stuff like marble madness, snake rattle & roll, solar jetman, wizards and warriors, etc.)
i should give his more recent non-dkc works a listen sometime.
