around the time i was born, sonic 3 came out. my earliest memories were of sonic 3, specifically the snowboarding intro of ice cap zone, although i watched my brother play through a good amount of the game. apparently i would wake up and climb out of my bed, and find a way to open my door just so i could watch my brother play the game. my mom still has no idea how i was able to get out of my bed and open the door or anything since i was still pretty small.
since i was born on the edge of the snes's lifetime and the beginning of the n64's, i vaguely remember watching my mom play a link to the past, donkey kong country, and kirby super star. specifically kirby super star stuck out to me because of how colorful it was, and for a good chunk of my life - when we lost several of our favorite games - marshmallow castle's theme was stuck in my head until i was surprised with a new copy of the game on my 9th birthday.
shortly after both of these events, we lived in arizona for a brief period of time with our distant cousins. we had brought our snes so we played super mario kart a lot during the evenings. additionally, we brought our genesis and my cousin todd (who was older than me) thought that the spike ball roll of casino night zone on sonic 2 gave you points despite me clearly saying that they were taking away rings. i got real tired of todd's shit after a while.
my cousins recently got a n64 before we stayed with them and for the longest time i remembered the general theme song of yoshi's story, because i'd watch them play it occasionally before i took a nap.
